The National Weather Service in Houston reported a week ago that Walker County has seen 59 100-degree days this summer, a number which is expected to increase before the end of the season. The next hottest summer on record was in 1980 with 43 100-degree days. In a normal year, there are six days on average that reach 100 degrees.
Bob Rose, meteorologist with the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin, said this drought is among the worst ever recorded. Overall temperatures are actually higher than those experienced during the drought of record during the 1950s.
in other news, similar topic, they are about to put us on mandatory water restrictions to help with this drought. which, is really something any of us want. If those people who INSIST they must water their dead grass wouldn't we might not have to conserve so much water. your grass is going to die people, it'll grow back when we get enough rain. letago! since we had a couple huge forest fires this past week, we used even more water... the fires were pretty huge. wow. 3 fires, 1 day
And currently- there are THREE fires going on today, most of north of my town has been evacuated, and I can smell and see smoke in my backyard even, 'lucky' for us, the wind is blowing straight into town.... :/

It has been ridiculously hot here too! Today as well as yesterday have been so much cooler! Feels so nice!
And I can't believe that in one day there were 3 major fires! Thank goodness you didn't have to be evacuated!
