I can change that

I can't change my weight (very easily). I can't change my looks. I can't change a whole lot about me without a lot of hard work, but I can change my hair. and I do. often. It's the one thing I'm brave enough to try new cuts and colors with. Wo knows what my natural color even is anymore? I know if I screw it up, it will grow back, and I can start fresh again. This weekend was no exception. I called my hair stylist and I said:
"Melanie, I need to come in for a cut and color. You are going to hate me. I took a store-bought box of hair color to my hair, several times, and I screwed up big time." She said she was sure it was no big deal, and she can fix it. I walk into her shop, and her mouth drops. I had 2ish differnt colors in my hair, as it didn't take the color I tried the most recent time. My hair had split ends almost to my roots do to the bleaching we did in the past, and the color I attempted to do on my own.

We decided to start fresh. She chopped it all off and gave it a fresh new color. It feels nice, once again.

Now to learn how to style it like she did in this picture...

I'm braving it

Yesterday was an eventful day for my small little Texas town. A huge storm came through bringing lots and lots of rain, thunder, lightning, and tornadoes. (small tornadoes, but still...) The power went out in the entire town for several hours in the morning, some of the power is still out. My office lost power around 9. Employees were just sitting around in the dark playing with their phones and talking. Me and a few friends got the bright idea to find a room, and watch Netflix (thank goodness for the iphone). At some point while we were in slumber party mode watching a movie, a tornado struck literally across the street from my office, blew OVER my office- you could hear the roof trying to lift up- and caused some damage to some neighbor buildings. No one was hurt, it wasn't even a big tornado, but, nonetheless...

Catching Fire

Linking up today with Heather from Blonde... Undercover Blonde for Friday's Book Club. (Side note: I am definitely on my way to reading 12 books a year, a great start anyway)

The book I read this week:

Catching Fire takes place in the country of Panem There are a total of 12 Districts, but there once was a 13th which was destroyed in a rebellion against the Capitol. The Hunger Games take place annually in a stadium specially built for the event in an unidentified location.

After winning the 74th Hunger Games in the previous novel, Katniss and Peeta return home to District 12, the poorest sector. On the day that Katniss and Peeta are to start a "victory tour" of the country, she is visited by President Snow. President Snow explains that he is angry at her for threatening to commit suicide with Peeta at the end of the Hunger Games, which permitted them both to win. She must now prove that this was for her love of Peeta.

For the 75th Hunger Games, 24 victors from previous years will be forced to compete once again. This is in honor of the "Quarter Quell": an event that occurs every 25th year of the Games and allows the Capitol to introduce a twist.

This 2nd book of the trilogy has many twists that keep you in suspense the whole time. The book is all about survival, as well as learning to take orders that may cause your own life, so that those you love will love on. Definitely in love with this trilogy. I read this book in just a few short days, staying up way past my 'bed time' because I simply couldn't put it down.

Traveling Thursday

One trip of a lifetime I plan taking one day is a visit to the Grand Canyon. Except, It won't be a simple trip where I look down at the canyon, or ride a horse down and hike around. I'm talking all out, White water rafting down the Colorado River through the Canyon. It will be an unbelievable trip, a trip of a lifetime.

Eat your Cabbage

On New Years Eve/Day you are supposed to eat Cabbage, Ham, and Black Eyed peas for good luck, money and health. apparently, I don't know to cook cabbage so it was gross, so I didn't even swallow one piece of that. So Good luck was out of the question for my 2012. Superstitious right, probably not true? I hoped so.

Until last night.
1- I had a complication in a work project that has lasted way too long, which sucks, I know what you're thinking. that's not really 'bad luck' is it? and then;
2- I'm walking down the sidewalk with a co-worker and miss a curb and fall. I banged up both knees, my ankle, and I got a bruise on my finger? Not sure how that one happened.
3- My Check Engine light on my truck came, and now I have to go to my mechanic and figure out what's wrong and buy some ridiculous part for him to install. (although, this could turn good news, now that he got his teeth fixed and I can focus on his face, he's really cute ;) )

ON another note- I did eat my black eyed peas. and H&R Block looked at a previous year's taxes for me, and found almost $1,600 extra for me to get back. so, I guess I will stick with my black eyed peas every year.
