Crafty Wednesday

Today we had a Christmas party at work and we decided to play a White Elephant game, only the gifts were our favorite dessert we made, and a dishtowel. I decided to make my own dishtowel, thanks to Pinterest.

It was pretty simple really, and all the material I already had at home.

Orange Pride

Sam Houston State University is ranked #1 in the Southland Division with 13 games undefeated. Semi-finals are this Friday, and when we win, our championship game will be in January. I went to the quarter finals this past Saturday, and to see the Orange Pride as the Bearkats slaughter Montana State was amazing. The video camera in front of me, that's ESPN filming.  Pretty cool for a Small town college in East Texas...

90 Minutes in Heaven

Today I'm linking up with Heather with Blonde... Undercover Blonde for Book Club Friday.

Based on a True Story- Don Piper is in a car accident just outside of Huntsville, Texas, and is pronounced dead at the scene. This is a fascinating story of a man's visit to Heaven, and his life after returning to earth. Don Piper is an ordained minister in a town outside of Houston, TX, whose recovery continues to be grueling physically. The life and death experience changed his life forever.

The first part of this book was intense. Leaving me waiting to hear more as he describes, as best as possible, what he saw as he spent 90 human minutes in heaven, as we as telling the gruesome story of his rough-life long journey of recovery. The 2nd half of the book he talked about how is experiences helped others. Definitely a book worth reading.

I found several quotes from the book that were inspirational as well.
"Sometimes things we take for granted every day can be taken from us permanently and suddenly, and we're changed forever."
We're willing to save someone in a visible crisis, but a lot of folks are in a spiritual crisis and we don't say a word about how they can get out of it."
"There are no accidents or surprises with God."

Whoo hoo! Another year older. Last Saturday I turned… yup- 28. oh so close to 30! But, I will not admit it. Not yet anyway. Yesterday was the first time I said ‘28’ out loud. That was weird. And sounds so old. But- I had a wonderful birthday so it was great.
My co-workers took me out Friday night, where I ran into quite a few other people, good and bad. Saturday night I went out with more friends and had a wonderful time again. I also realized, at 28, I’m too old to go out all night, all weekend, drinking. Sunday was rough.

And of course, along with a birthday comes presents. My mom and dad got me the new, white, 32gb iPhone 4S, which is amazing. And a phone case/cover that is also a charger. It rocks! I got some brown ‘texas winter’ boots, and some cash, that I spent on 2 shirts and perfume so far. (there’s a little left over, I can’t decide what I want).

I have a new friend, and he sent me these cute flowers, and a hoodie (If you can’t guess, he’s in the Army and didn’t like that I said I often wear a Marine hoodie… oops!)

And then at work, we all have ‘birthday buddies’ and mine happens to also be a good friend, Kari. She bought me kalaches and a really cute pink scarf.

And now, I feel like I should show pics. So- enjoy haha.

Mr. Rogers

do you remember Mr. Rogers?! I remember I used to love watching him, and the trolly and going to Make Believe land. 'Won't you be my neighbor?'

A friend and I were just talking about it. Ah the days of good childhood tv shows are long gone!

Craft weekend

oh how i love Pinterest. I also love my Swiffer Sweeper and Wet Jet. What I don't love- is having to buy refills every month or 2. I feel like it is such a waste to buy these pads just to wipe the floor up, and throw them away. Especially when we are at at time of 'going green'.

I saw this cute little 'Make your own mop pads' on Pinterest and so I decided to try it out.  I am very impressed with myself. Already used it and my floor looks wonderful!

This is my finished product, and this is where you can find the instructions

Fundraiser

I've been in charge of my office's fundraisers for the last two months (we only do them two months a year, and this year, it was mine to handle) Our final fundraiser we did, were two combined into one. Side note: we raised over $1,400 this year.

one was- each employee can pay $1.00 to vote for one of 3 managers to dress up in mystery costumes. The costumes were: Pirate, Sumo Wrestler, and Woody (The cowboy from Toy Story).

The other- We form teams with a theme, and cook chili, selling it for $5.00 a bowl. The costume contest played a role in my team's theme, as we were Pirates, and my manager actually won the pirate costume, which went perfect. oh- btw- the sign in the background, I made :) go me. The girl in the picture is my co-worker and friend, Kari.

Fun in the sun

This weekend was fun, and crazy to say the least.
Saturday I went out to the local Dive pond for a weekend event. The owner did a fundraiser for the Dive Pirates, which is an organization for disabled Vets to come together and be able to scuba dive without feeling disabled.  I think it's really neat!  Different people put teams together and cooked chili and came up with pirate themed names, we went scuba diving on an under-water scavenger hunt, in which I ended up winning a diving skin suit, which I'll never wear, but it's still cool to win! ha.On my way out, I was trying my darndest to find some fall-colored treets, but unfortunately, all I saw were charcoaled trees from the fires we had a couple months ago. :/

Sunday, after waking up at 8 to do homework for a few hours, I drove down to my parents' - 2 hours away- for my niece's 4th birthday party. I cannot believe she's already (soon to be) 4.  wow where has the time gone?!  My cousins were nice enough to bring two of their horses for the party, since Austynn insisted she was having horsies.  She almost has my brother convinced to buy a horse for her.

And just for fun, I must add a picture of the baby and me! ( don't mind all those mosquito bites on her poor little face :(  )

oopsie!!

I have had a crack on my floor since I moved into this house sept. 2010. Landlord kept saying it's not a big deal, just deal with it.

and then this happened to me....

I feel through, sorta.  He's dang lucky I did't hurt myself!!!!!  so, I called the landlord and two days later the owner came out to fix it. this is what my floor now looks like:

its darn ugly, but at least it's solid for once.

Walking tall

Something totally interesting I found on the web today.

A fish… with hands?!

I always said I wanted to go back to Australia one day to dive again, maybe I’ll plan my diving around finding a walking fish. How cool would that be?!!

I'm still amazed

27.

That’s the number of years I have lived in this great country state. And I am still not used to the rapid weather changes, and the cooler air and the dryer climate.

Yesterday I forgot I was warned it would be ‘winter attire’ day, until I walked outside to head to work. The 15 mph wind bout blew me away, and the 50 degree weather caused me to freeze on my front porch for a minute.

Today it's even colder.

Even my puppy was was cold.

Today, I remembered. I got to wear my cute wintery boots with my skirt. Yay!

Saturday it’s supposed to be back in the 80’s, I hope so. I had a day planned to spend it outside for a chili cook-off, and some diving with new friends. Let’s hope the water stayed warm through this burst of coldness we are experiencing.
