We did a 3D Ultrasound for my beautiful niece a couple months back.

And yesterday, I got to meet her: 9/7/11, 11:50 AM, 7.9 Lbs, 19-1/2 In. Dark hair, blue eyes.
And so did her big brother and sister.

And here's my family, minus the momma who's sitting in the bed right now

My new Shirt

I have 3 classes worth of homework to do, 6 chapters in 3 books to read, all due tomorrow. I've barely started, and because I am putting this off so much, Saturday I decided to attempt the Anthro Tank Top.  I went to 3 stores looking for an orange colored shirt, so I can make mine in honor of my school spirit.  No such luck, so I settled with a different shirt.  I started out with these two shirts:

I ended up with this (and please excuse my crazy tanline on the back. Note to self: don't wear a tank top at the beach without sunscreen)

boy it's hot around here!

ohmuhlawrd!! It's a scorcher!! I'm glad for this 'cold' front to come in today. Windows open, wind blowing. It's only 88 degrees today, first day below 100 in I don' know how long... last weekend my thermostat (in the shade mind you) said it was 111 degrees on my porch. SHEESH! The local newspaper even reported this: Local newspaper
The National Weather Service in Houston reported a week ago that Walker County has seen 59 100-degree days this summer, a number which is expected to increase before the end of the season. The next hottest summer on record was in 1980 with 43 100-degree days. In a normal year, there are six days on average that reach 100 degrees.

Bob Rose, meteorologist with the Lower Colorado River Authority in Austin, said this drought is among the worst ever recorded. Overall temperatures are actually higher than those experienced during the drought of record during the 1950s.

in other news, similar topic, they are about to put us on mandatory water restrictions to help with this drought. which, is really something any of us want. If those people who INSIST they must water their dead grass wouldn't we might not have to conserve so much water. your grass is going to die people, it'll grow back when we get enough rain. letago! since we had a couple huge forest fires this past week, we used even more water... the fires were pretty huge. wow.  3 fires, 1 day

And currently- there are THREE fires going on today, most of north of my town has been evacuated, and I can smell and see smoke in my backyard even, 'lucky' for us, the wind is blowing straight into town.... :/

Hair

I'm so tired of my boring FLAT hair.  I can't do anything with it.  It's almost completely straight. I can't get it to hold a curl, I can't put volume in it (unless it's super short, which, this year it's not!) nothing. it drives me up the wall when I see people who can do so many dif. styles to their hair throughout one week.  Mine looks the same, always.  I do add some color to it, but that's all I can do.  I think I need to google how to change stubborn hair.... Any tips?!

Ghosts?!

I do believe in ghosts, when I was a kid I saw a few. and I remember it very detailed.  I won't get into it, even to this day, when talking about it my eyes water and I get chills, just imagining my experiences.  but- I'm not anything like Jennifer Love-Hewitt in The Ghost Whisperer. I've been watching that on Netflix lately, I enjoy having something I don't have to concentrate on in the background while I'm studying or doing other things around the house. I don't watch it after dark though, because my quiet, old house can seem a little more creepy.

Last night I had a dream about a ghost. So creepy. I may have to stop watching The Ghost Whisperer for a while.  I was in someone's (no idea who) living room, laying on a couch watching a movie, my friend was laying on the couch right next to me.  I felt a cool breeze come blow past me from the door, but the door was closed.  And then the door opened just a crack.  My friend got up to close the door, and while my friend was away, the ghost turned on the light in the living room, took my couch as if it were a kid's toy from a happy meal, and starting spinning it in circles as fast as he/she can (while I was still laying on it).  When my friend came back, the light was off, and the couch was still.  I panicked so I went to sit with my friend, because it appeared the ghost didn't want to hurt him any.  Then the ghost, who we couldn't even see, started beating me up!! WTH?!  Thank goodness my alarm clock went off at that time because I was bawling like a scared baby in my dream.

The Lone Survivor- Book Club

I am linking up today with Blonde… Undercover Blonde for my 2nd book club. I am really enjoying these, as it gives me a ‘reason’ to read.

I didn’t choose to read The Lone Survivor because the author, Marcus Lutrell, is from the same town I live in, or because he’s a Christian, or because he’s a redneck, or even because he was once a bouncer at the very same dance hall I often visit. But, those are all great perks. I have owned this book for about 4 years and never got make myself read it because I knew how awful it would be. I didn’t however, know how amazing it would be!

Marcus Lutrell is a Navy SEAL who’s team was ambushed in 2005 by the Taliban during a mission in Afghanistan.  Marcus tells you the background story of his family, the love and support his community have for him, and the training that takes place just to even get a shot at becoming a SEAL.  It sounds intense.  He adds humor throughout the book, and at times I caught myself literally laughing out loud at some of his comments.  He expresses his views of the political system, and how our messed up system is a reason we are losing more lives than we should during a time of war.  It really opens your eyes to the way America really feels about a war that we felt we just HAD to engage in.  I also found a few tears rolling down my cheek, as I’m reading his words it is almost as if I am there witnessing the battle with him for the first time.  Marcus, along with his 3 teammates all were heroes that day, no doubt.  I do recommend this book if you have any interest in the war and what is going on with our country.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“I will come out fighting for my country and for my teammates.  If necessary, to the death.”

SEALs Philosophy: “I will never quit.  I persevere and thrive on adversity.  My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies.  If knocked down, I will get back up, every time.  I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission.  I am never out of the fight.”

“Americans are not welcome.” – This is a sign that is seen in many stores in Afghanistan, which is heart-breaking, because (to our little people’s knowledge) we are only there to help the country fight the Taliban themselves.

Because in the end, your enemy must ultimately fear you, understand your supremacy.

Donald Rumsfeld once said “What do you want to do? Leave him there until he does?” regarding should we attack because they MIGHT have atomic bombs, but they might not.

“Because everyone knows liberals have never been wrong about anything.  You can ask them.  Anytime.”

*rules of engagement are clear, don’t shoot, kill or injure unarmed civilians, regardless, or fear imprisonment from your own country when you return.*

Those terrorist organizations laugh at the US media, and they know exactly how to use the system against us.

“Let him who desires peace prepare for war.”

“My own faith remained forever unshaken.”

The USA needs to “stop worrying if everyone still loved us. If we did that, we’d probably win in both Afghanistan and Iraq in about a week.”

“If you don’t want to get into a war where things go wrong, where the wrong people sometimes get killed, where innocent people sometimes have to die, then stay the hell out of it in the first place.- in response to the USA not allowing military to kill unarmed civilians, who may be trained spies or worse.”

The True Life: I'm a FOOD Blogger

Whoo HOO! MY first link up.  Today I am linking up with Fabulous But Evil and Mrs. Monologues

My blog is still a work in progress, so don't judge based on first appearances at this time, thank you! :)

If you want to know more about me, check out my About ME section.

I love to eat.  In fact, so much so that I am in charge our of the Holiday Committee at work (that's where we PLAN dif. events, and make up special occasions when everyone in the office is to bring food) sometimes I will blog about my favorite desserts, or the ones I want to try, but won't dare for the calories are worth more than a week's worth of food. HA!

Some of my favorite foods to cook at home are the following:

Chicken Parmesan ( I have a few secret ingredients I add to make it out of this world!!)

Chicken Pot Pie

Spaghetti

Steak and Mash Potatoes (although I am not a fan of my steak generally looking this raw)

Breakfast tacos (OOH yuummy. I love making these!! eggs, Cheese, sausage and bacon all mixed together!) - This isn't a picture of the ones I make, but it's the same concept, sorta.

Roast - I love this on a cold day (so maybe like, twice a year??)  or even a hot day for that matter!!

Ham Potato (Although I didn't cook this, I do love eating at the local Potato restaurant for one of these to DIE for potatoes)

I enjoy when friends come over or spend the night because it gives me an excuse to cook and 'show off' my talents, or lack there of, to them.
